Ron has a passion for the game and his knowledge has made him both well-known and beloved by the public. He was inducted to Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2015 to honour his achievements. He is the author of two books, Hockey Towns: Untold Stories from the Heart of Canada and Cornered Hijunks, Highlights, Late Nights, and Insights.”
This broadcaster’s career began in 1978 when he worked part-time at CKRD Radio in Red Deer, Alberta. He later took on the midnight newscaster job on Friday and Saturday nights, which is a big sacrifice for a high school student. He was promoted to disc jokey and eventually became the program manager.
His world turned to hockey in 1984 when a hockey producer says Ron doing an ad-lib weather forecast. He hired him to host the Calgary Flame telecasts on the independent Calgary television station CFAC. Ron became the evening news sports anchor and moved on from there.
Ron holds four Gemini Awards as Best Sports Broadcaster for work in Nagano.
